Zombieland

"It's time to nut up or shut up". That's the motto of what the character Tallahassee played by Woody Harrelson lives by in the movie Zombieland. I have to say that this is one of the best movies I've seen this year. I admit that I wasn't interested in this movie the first time I saw the trailer. I mean it looked funny and all and it had a good cast with Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, but it just didn't pique my interest. But a few weeks before the movie opened the buzz surrounding it was pretty positive which made me go out and see it opening day and I was not disappointed one bit.

Zombieland isn't the most original movie out there and it's also being compared to Shaun of the Dead which is another movie dealing with zombies in a humorous way, but director Ruben Fleischer did a good job in translating the script into a lean, mean, 80 minute funny action flick. In a nut shell, zombies have taken over the world and a band of survivors in which this case focuses on 4, try to survive and outwit the zombies and hopefully find other survivors. Oh I forgot to also mention there is another survivor our 4 heroes come across in the movie. That person is actually a celebrity cameo who I won't spoil, but that person's scene was one of the many highlights of the movie.

Like I said earlier, the cast did a really good job in this flick. The names of our 4 heroes are named after the city they are trying to get to. Jesse Eisenberg who plays Columbus was spot on perfect in the movie. He's like a Michael Cera clone, they both have the same mannerisms and behavior in the characters they play. It's as if Michael Cera passed on this and Eisenberg stepped in and I'm glad he did, the banter between him and Woody's Tallahassee was so good, they really had good chemistry together. I also thought the rules that Columbus lives by to survive in Zombieland were pretty damn funny such as Cardio, you gotta stay in shape if you want to outrun the zombies, or my personal favorite was his rule on Double Tap where one shot to a zombie isn't good enough. Emma Stone who we all remember as the redhead Jules from Superbad plays another redhead in this movie, who I must say is pretty hot plays Wichita and Little Miss Sunshine herself Abigail Breslin who isn't all that little anymore, plays her sister Little Rock. At first, they con our 2 male heroes and leave them out to dry but then later in the movie they eventually learn to deal with them and they all team up in the finale of the movie which takes place at an amusement park where they all go guns-a-blazing on the zombies.

Overall, I give this movie an 8 out of 10. I enjoyed it a lot. The chemistry between the characters made the movie all the better, especially Woody and Jesse's relationship. Also, the other good thing about this movie is that it's rated R. I like the fact that the studio didn't have to take the easy route and make this a pg13 flick, they took a chance with the R rating(parents, please don't take your kids to this movie, it's R for a reason) and it's paying off. As of right now it's up to $47 million on a budget of $25 million. It already made back it's production cost and it's only going to go higher. I hope studios out there take a look at how this movie is doing and try not to take the easy way out to make a movie that was meant to be R but turn it into a mediocre pg13 flick(yes I'm looking at you Terminator:Salvation). To anybody that's reading this, go see this movie. I highly recommend it. It's a good mixture of comedy, horror and action.
