It was somewhat disappointing that there was no carry over from last week's 'Two and a Half Men,' which ended with Charlie (Charlie Sheen) bemoaning the loss of Rose (Melanie Lynskey).

But even though there was no Rose on the show, there was plenty of laughs. It was Evelyn's (Holland Taylor) birthday and there's nothing quite like the family get togethers at the Harpers!

To be honest, Charlie and Alan (Jon Cryer) are horrible sons. The only reason Alan sucks up to mom is for financial reasons and Charlie thinks the 'E' in Evelyn stands for evil. Even Jake (Angus T. Jones) is loutish. He's onto his father's leech-like tendencies and hates it, but Jake's an idiot. He's smart enough to want to be in grandma's will so he's a junior suck up.

Jake also had an ulterior motive for convincing dad to invite grandma to the beach house for a birthday dinner. Drunken Charlie had screwed up Jake's date with Megan and Jake wanted payback. What made the gag funnier still was that Jake avoided the dinner entirely because he was back in the valley at Judith's.
