Everything in this episode starts out light and funny as usual, the team going after a murderer and finding out odd little things about their victim – like the fact that he was an avid bird watcher and his nickname was “Lightbulb”.
One of the things I’ve always liked about this show is how they can go from funny to serious in the blink of an eye and when everyone realizes that the victim witnessed a child being abducted, that’s exactly what happens. The case hits everyone hard, especially Castle and I could tell that he kept thinking of what he would do in Dean’s place. When Beckett suggests they leave Dean behind, Castle is the first one to stand up for the man, knowing that a father can’t be expected to stand aside when there’s something he can do help his kid.
