Lisa is so impressed when they visit their mother’s childhood house and finds she was just as good a student as she was. Of course, Skinner crushes her dream when tells her that the one thing he knows is that children generally turn out just like their mothers.
When The Simpsons is bad, it’s bland. When it’s great, it’s great. This was a wonderful episode with the emotional ties Family Guy and American Dad couldn’t touch with a ten foot pen. Lisa is often at the heart of the best episodes of The Simpsons, and this was no exception. When she tries to avoid turning out like her mother she has no idea how much that hurts Marge-well she does, but her ambitions swat her conscience aside.
