It's been a decade since George W. Bush appeared on 'The Tonight Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC). So he and Jay Leno had a lot of catching up to do.
Leno started out with some basic praise for the former president -- and all the jokes he gave late night hosts a chance to make: "In the last ten years ... thank you for all the material." Bush was gracious in the face of this zinger, merely laughing in response.
Mr. Bush's presidency may be over, but Jay wanted to run through some highlights, and had compiled a presidential 'blooper reel' of sorts. Leno showed some classic awkward "Bush moments," including the time that Bush tried to escape a press conference in China -- only to find that the door was locked.
At the time, Bush quickly tried to yank open the door; then found it locked, and did a double-take. Now, the ex-president chuckled at the memory. "That's the definition of a man without an 'exit strategy,'" he quipped.
The host also showed footage of Bush dancing (poorly) with a West African dance troupe during a Rose Garden ceremony. Jay then contrasted this with more recent footage of Barack Obama also dancing badly. When asked who had the better dance moves, the ex-president reached across the partisan aisle -- to praise his successor. "President Obama," he replied.
