Tuesday night's episode of Glee showcased the wedding of Burt Hummel and Carole Hudson. There was also the wedding of Sue Sylvester to Sue Sylvester. And a guest appearance from Carol Burnett. And some major stuff happened around Kurofsky's bullying. All this in an episode named after the coupling of Finn and Kurt. With all this bouncing around between stories and tone, "Furt" turned out to be an unfocused jumble of an episode.
Weddings took up most of this episode, and unfortunately neither were entirely successful. Burt and Carole's wedding had a lot of heart to it, but everything came together so quickly that most of their emotional outpouring was only effective at a surface level. The series isn't about these two adult characters, so it's no surprise that I was moved more by Finn's toast, which was more about Kurt than the bride and groom. In fact, the whole wedding was more about glee club than the people getting married.
