BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD “Darkseid Descending” Review

Had it not been built up based on the prior week as a big episode (and also done with a different title/threat) "Darkseid Descending" would have been a pretty good outing for BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD. But we’re talking Darkseid here, from Apokolips, part of the "Fourth World" created some 40 years ago by the great Jack Kirby and one of the biggest bads in the DC Universe, maybe THE biggest of all.

The opener was the usual stand-alone thing: Batman teaming with Firestorm to take down Killer Frost. It was okay, but sorta throwaway.

Then, a good part of the main event was taken up establishing the new Justice League, featuring many members of the late ’80s Bwah-hah-hah Justice League International incarnation by writer J. M. DeMatteis with Keith Giffen and Kevin Maguire — Booster Gold, Blue Beetle (though here the young, newer one, not the late Ted Kord), slinky Fire and earnest Ice, plus a not stoic but rather cranky (and chocolate chip cookie eating) Martian Manhunter and then Batman with this show’s bearded, boisterous version of Aquaman.
