It’s strange to want to start a review with the words "I’m speechless", especially when I’m looking at over 700 words of notes about this episode, but that’s still kinda how I feel. This episode blew my mind on multiple levels and I hardly know where to begin.
I guess I’ll begin at the beginning – Crowley walking out in the first scene in a butcher’s apron and slicing at his doppelganger had to be one of the most interesting things I’ve seen on this show so far, and considering what we’ve seen on this show, that’s saying something.
Then there was the truth behind why Samuel had been working for Crowley. All this time I had assumed he’d been doing it to get Sam’s soul back, not to get his daughter back. Very interesting twist to have him turn on the boys, and for the first time (at least that I can recall), we have true war within the family. Skirmishes between the brothers, their dad and even Bobby we’ve seen. Dean Winchester vowing to kill his own grandfather the next time he lays eyes on him? Not so much.
