Housewives fans will recognize the name Jan Smith, as will just about anyone who's ever worked in the music business: Jan is one of the industry's most celebrated vocal coaches, as well as an accomplished singer, songwriter, and producer in her own right. Jan first appeared on RHOA in Season 1 for a memorably ill-fated lesson with aspiring chanteuse Kim Zolciak, who was flatly told by the industry vet, "You're living in a very beautiful house with a cracked foundation." (Is it really that beautiful, though?)
Three years later, Kim's dulcet pipes, effortless charisma, and self-assured artistry have ushered her into the pantheon of musical greats, but the timeless diva was still humble enough to accept help from Jan during a recent episode in the recording of her forthcoming single, "The Ring Didn't Mean a Thing." But the vocal coach, who clients like Justin Bieber and Keri Hilson affectionately call "Mama J," is refreshingly candid, down-to-earth, and insightful.
