Depending on your feelings towards Little Fockers – AKA the latest outing for the Meet The Parents franchise – it was either a very happy new year or a bad start to 2011 as Fockers won a hard-fought battle against the Coen brothers’ take on True Grit to top the US box office for a second weekend. The New Year chart found Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro and co earning $26.3 million, with the film now over $103 million in total across the pond.
True Grit, however, more than stood its ground, grabbing $24.5 million, and the Western has an impressive $86 million in the bank, making it the most successful film for the Coens have made so far in their career. The top two meant that Tron Legacy had to keep its light cycle in third gear, earning $18.3 million this weekend. Yogi Bear managed to claw back one place up from fifth to fourth and $13 million, while The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader sank down to fifth with $10.5 million.
