Regis Philbin's announcement yesterday that he would retire from 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (Weekdays, Syndicated) came as a surprise to many. At 79, Philbin still seems to enjoy the gig, and he seemed a little choked up about it. But 28 years on one show is a long time.
Talk quickly turned from Regis' retirement to who would replace him on the show. A strange list of names was bandied about, including Ryan Seacrest (who lost out on replacing Larry King), Anderson Cooper and Mark Consuelos (Kelly Ripa's husband).
This morning, Regis and Kelly had a little fun tossing around names of their own. "50 Cent, he'd be good, I love him," said Regis of a producer's suggestion. "How about Lil Wayne?"
