TV ratings: 'American Idol' dips but FOX still wins Thursday; 'Vampire Diaries' returns low

Fast National ratings for Thursday, April 7, 2011"American Idol" fell some from its performance last week, but it was still far and away the night's most-watched show and led FOX to a ratings win. It also appeared to do some harm to "The Vampire Diaries," which returned from a hiatus to lower-than-usual ratings.FOX led the night with just shy of 16 million viewers and a 9.3 rating/16 share in households. CBS (12.4 million, 7.8/13) came in second. ABC (3.9 million, 2.6/4) and NBC (2.8 million, 1.8/3) were both rerun-heavy and therefore didn't offer any competition to the two leaders. The CW averaged 2.3 million viewers and a 1.5/2.FOX also dominated the adults 18-49 demographic with a 4.8 rating, nearly two points better than CBS' 2.9. NBC was a fairly distant third at 1.3. ABC scored a 1.2 and The CW a 1.0....
