Why Thor Is A Big Deal

Thor, a movie about alien-god things that battle Frost Giants and walk along rainbow bridges to access intergalactic teleportation, comes at a time when the Hollywood machine is more concerned with making safe bets than, well, movies about alien-god things battling Frost Giants. While Marvel's Thor is a brand, it's a risky one; not tried-and-true like "insert boardgame or toy" here. More risky is that Thor is Phase One proper of Marvel's plan to expand their movie universe to embrace the more fantastical elements while paving the road to Joss Whedon's Avengers. It's hard enough setting out to create a new franchise and introduce audiences to its hero, let alone do that and set up pieces to a puzzle that two other films - Captain America and The Avengers - and their stories will complete.  Read More...
