DOCTOR WHO “The Curse of the Black Spot” Review

DOCTOR WHO "The Curse of the Black Spot" Season 6, Episode 3 – After the mental acrobatics it took to wrap my head around the previous two episodes of Doctor Who this season, it was kind of nice to be able to sit back and enjoy a straight up classic action adventure on a pirate ship this week.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Doctor Who the best when it’s messing with my mind, but it wouldn’t be the same without their fantastical one-shot adventures all over time and space. And if we’ve learned anything from the last couple seasons, it’s that even the events in the stand alone episodes might come back and have some relevance in the season’s overall arc. The woman with the metal eye patch that we saw in last week’s episode appeared in the pirate ship to tell Amy "It’s fine, you’re doing fine, just stay calm." Last week she said, "I think she’s just dreaming." This woman starting to sound like a midwife now and the Tardis still cant tell if Amy is pregnant. By the end of the episode you’ve also got a 17th century pirate crew manning a ship in outer space and either the alien space ship runs exactly like a brigantine, or Captain Avery is a technical wiz centuries ahead of his time.
