I love it, but entirely unoriginal.

First off, I do enjoy this show. I dig a couple of the stars and I like the whole 90210 nostalgia bit.

But even aside from being a remake/continuation of the original series, I can't help but think that this show has ripped off another (practically unheard of) show almost entirely, South of Nowhere.

South of Nowhere is a show on Noggin about a family from the midwest moving to LA for one of the parents' jobs. Included in the family are the attractive and ever-lovable mid-western-down-to-earth daughter, and the adopted over-achieving black son.

Even farther beyond these basic similiarities, the daughter makes nice with the attractive/bitchy misfit girl, the oh-so-popular cheerleading girl (the misfit and the cheerleader being ex-best friends and now arch-nemeses) and popular girls hunky boyfriend (who just happens to have a thing for cute mid-western girl, and vice versa).

I will not be at all surprised if Annie finds out Silver is a lesbian, and then starts to question her own sexuality (with a little experimentation as well.)

I don't know, I'm not even complaining. Like I said, I like both shows. I just thought the similarities were overwhelming. I'm sure there will be plenty of people to say that all of my points are rather generic, but that's not even an argument against what I'm saying. In fact, it rather upholds my "entirely unoriginal" summation.

Food for thought. If nothing else, I can only suggest South of Nowhere as another great show for those of you looking for similar entertainment.

you might be right. Whit SoN they really focused on the fact that Spencer is gay and all the thinks that come what that. the question now is are they gone show that whit 90210 aswel or are they going to show it as just another relationship or experiment. and its asame they canceled SoN. it is 1 of the better shows i know.

You are so right! It's totally a rip-off of South of Nowhere! And yes, SON is so much better. I got bored watching 90210, but can't get enough of SON. I watched SON's seasons 1 and 2 in 2 days straight! Too bad it's been cancelled... =(

funny you should write that because it's exactly what I was thinking when I started watching the new 90210. And I am just waiting for Silver to annouce her lesbianism now. :)

It's not Silver's mom, it's Adriana's. But it's definitely the mom from South of Nowhere too.

oh yes she is! wow!
| 21:11 EDT, 27 Sep, 2008
but... silver's mom is not the same actress from south of nowhere...

I KNOW! within the first few minutes, I noticed the same thing! The overwhelming similarities were weird. I watch South of Nowhere and the story lines are ridiculously similar. isn't that illegal?

Wow south of nowhere sounds good but very simaler. Exspecially wiht the adopting part and moving to L.A. The show also reminds me a little bit of Gossip girl. But i love all shows and Will keep watching.

Wow, that sounds insaine. I'm gonna check out South of Nowhere for sure. I like 90210 too, but that's because I'm not a picky wiever.. The show has all the main-ingridients to be successfull among teens, but from a neutral point of wiev it kind of sucks. It's pretty unoriginal (even before hearing about that other show you mentioned with the exact same plot). The old 90210 show was soooooo much better. I loved that show.
