‘The Glee Project,’ Series Premiere: TV Recap

You have a four-foot-nine dude with the abs of gold. A sassy Latina who takes flirting way too far. A hipster-nerdy heart breaker with songwriting skills. A classically-trained soprano with femme fatale looks and bright eyes. And a Northern Irish teenager with a penchant for American standards, but doesn’t know the words to "Jesse’s Girl." All waiting to hear those words: "You have won the Glee Project."

Consider it another singing competition that’s as formulaic as "The Voice," "American Idol" and the forthcoming "X-Factor." Awkward auditions, unpolished raw talent, and a winner chosen not by true singing ability alone, but a smattering of subjective factors: acting, dancing, lip-synching.
