MASTERCHEF “Top 38 Revealed” Review

MASTERCHEF "Top 38 Revealed" Season 2, Episode 3 – This third episode of MasterChef was another hour of the same formula we saw in the first two episodes: tough judges, hopeful home cooks, and a heavy helping of forced drama.

Maybe the only difference was that this MasterChef audition round felt like a "say no to Joe" night. There were a string of contestants that Chef Bastianich was excited about, that Chef Ramsay and ChefElliot passed on. I actually agreed with Chef Bastianich tonight, particularly when he gave his yes vote to Edgardo, a contestant who prepared some pretty delicious looking crab and even taught the judges a little bit about crab fat. Despite agreeing that the taste was good, Chef Elliot and Chef Ramsay handed down a no vote for Edgardo, arguing that he did not put forward enough of a MasterChef type dish. They later give aprons to home cooks that they believed had potential but whose food – at least on television – didn’t look quite as appealing so it made me think that maybe personality was playing a bigger factor than the food for some of these contestants.
