'Game of Thrones' finale hits a ratings high

Killing off a lead character in the penultimate episode of the season didn't seem to hurt the ratings for "Game of Thrones" -- in fact, it may have helped. The HBO series drew its biggest audience of the season with Sunday's (June 19) finale, drawing just over 3 million viewers. That show's previous high was 2.72 million for the June 5 episode; the controversial June 12 episode, which included the death of Sean Bean's character, Ned Stark, delivered 2.66 million viewers.A replay later on Sunday drew an additional 900,000 viewers, giving "Game of Thrones" a cumulative 3.9 million people for the night. That puts it more or less in line with the season finale of "Boardwalk Empire" last fall, which drew 3.3 million viewers in its first airing and 4.2 with the first replay added in.HBO says that factoring in all replays and on-demand viewing, "Game of Thrones" averaged 8.9 million viewers per episode this season....
