Review: ‘Necessary Roughness’: She Goes From Kitchen to the Locker Room

There is so much sports on television — not just the Super Bowl and ESPN but also the MLB Network, the Tennis Channel, the Golf Channel, NBA TV, the Big Ten Network and all those cable shows hooked on boxing, wrestling, cycling and fishing. What is remarkable is that so little of it has bled into dramas or comedies.

"Friday Night Lights," about a Texas high school football team, is one of the few sports-related series with legs. Another, sort of, is "Basketball Wives,"a VH1 reality show about the wives, ex-wives and girlfriends of N.B.A. players that was created by Shaunie O’Neal, the former wife of Shaquille O’Neal.
