Sorry bro episode

i was really dissapointed with this episode, we didnt have much of Robin, Barney Lilly or even Marshal for most of it and it just wasnt as good as i would have liked it to have been. Just hope next weeks storylines better and we can have a little bit more of Barney.

I agree with you this is one of the few times that i was extremely disappointed with an episode of HIMYM. Its usually so reliable for a few laughs and a good storyline, however this episode was dull and just a complete disappointment.

The episode made me laugh, but I think the problem is we know we are just being introduced to another failed relationship of Ted's that we have no reason to be rooting for since it's a clear failure from the start.

Actually the episode made me laugh loads so I can forgive the show for not making any plot-progress :D

Hey I totally agree but also the pants thing was sort of funny only because of Barney's laugh. But I completely understand that Ted is getting a little annoying...

I think that the pants story was hilarious because I thought it was going to be this amazing story and it really would have been amusing had Barney not that it was the funniest story ever. Other than the story the episode was a letdown. No matter how good a show is there are always disappointing episodes, and HIMYM has had very few.

Well, I can see how a lot of you might have been dissapointed with this episode, it was indeed something else. We didn't see such an episode for a long time now - with the gang just sitting in McLaren's and just telling each other events that happened.
BUT...............
The episode is really great for the fans of the show - it is a 20-minute-fest of references to earlier episodes. It has many cool little things that long-time fans can catch throughout it.I know, every episode has some little reference to what has been shown earlier, but very little amount of episodes has so many thing that refer to the overall history and "mythology" of these characters, that have been established earlier. It's nice to know that the writers are so much aware of the continuity and they remind us of that fact. This is what makes the show so special after all.
1. for the first time, we meet Karen! The ever-off-screen Karen, Ted's first girlfriend, who broke up with him off-screen in "Arrivederci, Fiero" and who got "an electronic mail" from Ted, after he was guilty for kissing Alexa Leskys (who he thought to be Lilly :)). I've never thought they would ever actually show her, that she would return, so that was nice.2. I'm not sure if a chimpansee in a tuxedo counts as a reference, but I think we can see exactly that in the last few second of Barney's video resume. So, maybe that's the same monkey that makes Robin laugh so hard ;)3. Definetly a nice come back of a usual character - Scooter returns and doesn't stop his lame attempts to "win" Lily back. Great one, funny as always. If I remember correctly, he was previously in season 1 "Best prom ever" and season 2 "Something borrowed".4. Barney's lunch with Wendy the waitress - along with Robin's lunch with Kurt from Metro News 1 - are nice comebacks of storylines from "The Platinum Rule" in which those two warn Ted of getting involved with someone you already have daily contact with. Plus, they finally remind the viewers of Robin's "gun loving". I think this hasn't been brought up in quite a long time.5. February 5th, 1998 (which is also my birthday ;)), is the day Lily painted Marshall naked, on a stool, holding a red rose. We already know this painting - it caused a lot of trouble for Marshall and a lot of laugh from the gang in season 2 "Columns". A little thing I also noticed and it could, but not necessarily, be a "fun fact" - in the scene where Karen asks Marshall about the TV, he's eating a bowl of fruit. Maybe it's the same that Lily was supposed to paint, before she decided to paint Marshall? ;)6. I don't know if falling asleep while eating ribs is some kind of a common misfortune in America, but if it's not - then Robin sleeping while eating ribs in this episode is a reference to season 3 "The bracket" in which Ted asks Robin if she ever fell asleep while eating ribs (to prove, that she giggles when she's lying). Apparently, that happens to her more often.7. Barney calling Ted "Theodore Evelyn Mosby" is the second time in the show, when we hear Ted's middle name. His mother (and Barney, although he called him "Ted Vivien Mosby") did the same thing in season 2 "How Lily stole Christmas".
There it is. I think it's an unusual amount of such little fun stuff, for a 20-minutes show. It's nice to see that the writers care that some of these things stay consistent - it makes the show feel more natural, more real. And it's nice to go through the episode and analyze it, even though some things may feel to far-fetched to you :) It's really invisible to people who don't know the show - but for the fans it's just amazing. And who knows? Maybe I left out some more? Have you got more of those references form that episode? And please forgive any spelling or grammatic mistakes I made... :)
