Inu Yasha Final Act Season 1, Episode 7 Review: The Mausoleum of Mount Azusa

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)

Naraku literally entangles Kikyo, Inu Yasha, and Kagome in his diabolical web. His goal is to create resentment in Kagome thus ensuring there is no one able to purify the jewel shards in a manner that would harm him. It seems his plan might work; Kikyo is close to dying (again), and Kagome must fetch the sacred bowstring in Mount Azusa.

Kagome rushes off to do just that and faces a test of what lies in her heart. However, the illusions presented to her by the guardian of the mountain serve only as a revelation. She may never be able to break the bonds of Kikyo and Inu Yasha's shared past, but she has formed her own bonds with him, equally as strong. With that, Naraku's web falls away from her heart.

If you guessed we ended on a cliffhanger, step up and claim your prize; the previews do not even bother with the pretense of what will happen. Kikyo is going to die... finally. But why could this not have happened numerous episodes ago? The points of the love triangle have been ground down until it resembles an amoeba.

What would have been interesting was to see how Kagome and Inu Yasha grow as individuals and as a couple if Kikyo were dead and Naraku a long way off. But that opportunity was missed numerous times, and here we are still waiting Easy Bake Kikyo to crumble for the last time.
