
Where were we? It's been so long since we've seen a new Breaking Bad; more than a full year since the episode "Full Measure" aired.
"Box Cutter" is a minimalist episode and moves at a semi-slow pace for two main reasons: building tension and reminding the audience how we got to this point. Walt sitting in a room for 30 minutes should be boring, but it manages not to be between the conversations, the acting and the viewer's knowledge that something is about to happen - which it does. The episode's pace is carried well by the subplots of Skyler searching for Walt (which also serves as a reminder of where their relationship is) and Hankand Marie interacting in conversations that you'd think would be stilted, but strangely aren't. What would probably be a boring episode for other TV shows is a well-told episode that sprawls like the Albuquerque scenery. Read More...
