THE SECRET LIFE OF THE AMERICAN TEENAGER “Flip Flop” Review

THE SECRET LIFE OF THE AMERICAN TEENAGER “Flip Flop” Season 4 Episode 9 – What an apt title for such an inane episode of such a sexist show. I’ve always known that this is not a show one should go to to enjoy strong female characters á la Alias or Battlestar Galactica. It’s not a show about empowering women or strong women or even women with self-respect and dignity. This is a show about shrews, about conniving harpy bitches who are out to trade ‘men’ (yes, men, high schoolmen) like currency. This is a show where the men can’t keep their pants zipped, where they cannot be trusted around fiendishly seductive wiles of craven vaginas. I think that Brenda Hampton hates her characters. It’s the only sane, logical reason I can think of when I try to imagine why a woman would write such a misogynistic show. It’s pretty obvious that this is the most straight faced comedy ever put to the screen. Girls running around with the hots for Ricky? That’s pretty funny. Adrian’s panto-villain routine as the devilish whore? That’s kinda comedy gold. If this show had a laugh track, it would probably be up for a series of Emmys. Read More...
