AWKWARD (MTV) “The Scarlet Eye” Review

AWKWARD "The Scarlet Eye" Season 1 Episode 4 – As I have been with anything that’s aired on MTV after about 1995, I was initially wary of their newest scripted drama "Awkward." Would it be yet another attempt to showcase "real" teens who happen to be played by twenty-something Abercrombie & Fitch models? Would it have cable-appropriate sex scenes and gratuitous use of technology that will be outdated this time next month? I was pretty convinced that I could go ahead and check off all of those boxes.

So imagine my surprise upon finding myself actually enjoying watching "The Scarlet Eye." No, there isn’t anything groundbreaking in this series about Jenna (Ashley Rickards), a teen girl who gives her virginity to a jock, Matty (Beau Mirchoff), at summer camp and winds up a living legend at her school after a miscommunication leads everyone to believe she tried to commit suicide afterward.
