‘Breaking Bad,’ Season 4, Episode 5, ‘Shotgun’: TV Recap

Tonight’s episode of "Breaking Bad," "Shotgun", was all about re-positioning, as all characters either work to change their status quos, or react to changes foisted upon them.

We start this week on Walt, driving his Aztek like a bat out of hell, placing a call to Skyler, tersely leaving a message for her, throwing out an "I love you" as if it may be the last time he’ll ever talk to her. As he reaches his destination, the reason for the desperate message is clear: he’s at Los Pollos Hermanos, armed and prepared to take Gus Fring out. But as several kinda shady looking characters show up, he gets a call from Mike, who as we recall, is driving Jesse somewhere. Mike lets Walt talk to Jesse, just so he doesn’t do anything more foolish than he’s already done. Walt has no choice to stand down on Gus, not that he was there anyway.

Jesse is his usual fidgety self as he is forced to ride shotgun with Mike on the first of his many "dead drops", picking up cash at predetermined locations. Between his nervousness over what Mike might do to him, Mike’s refusal to really engage in anything but the most necessary of terse conversations, and sheer boredom from the long drive, Jesse can’t help but stay on edge.
