‘Glee,’ Season 3, Episode 1, ‘The Purple Piano Project’: TV Recap (Premiere)

You can’t stop the beat. That’s the message, loud and clear, from "Glee’s" third-season opener, "The Purple Piano Project."

So, Will Schuester turns up the music by daring New Directions to burst out into song whenever they encounter the donated purple pianos around school. The mission: entice their classmates to join.

Fat chance that was going to happen.

A purple piano became the casualty of a food fight, after a lunchroom number by Glee members of "We Got the Beat" by The Go-Gos failed to stir up the lunch crowd. The conclusion: no one wants to be on Glee after it failed to secure a Nationals win. Another piano was lit on fire, right after Blaine’s ode to Kurt in a crazy-good performance of "It’s Not Unusual" by Tom Jones ended. Blaine becomes the newest Glee member, perhaps with half of his Warbler wardrobe, but still looking like the cool-half brother of a Williamsburg hipster. Santana, though, got blamed for that mishap.
