'The Vampire Diaries,' Season 3, Episode 3, 'The End of the Affair': TV Recap. This week, we spend a decent portion of our time transported back to Chicago in the Roaring ‘20s, when Stefan was deep into his Ripper phase. In true "Vampire Diaries" style, the flashbacks are both stylish and illuminating. We learn that during the days of Prohibition, Stefan spent most of his time drinking and killing people in and around a certain speakeasy. There, he met a blonde, accented vampire named Rebecca—as well as her doting brother, the vamp now known as Klaus. (Back then, he was going by Nick.)
