'American Idol' recap: Hollywood Week, Part 1

Well, here we are in Hollywood, where the 300-plus who survived the road show are apparently in for the ride. From the sounds of these drama queens, auditioning during Hollywood week is akin to performing brain surgery -- so much stress! Anxiety! Pressure! Nerves! And some vomit. The first round requires each contestant to sing a song of his or her choice a cappella. Some of these kids do great -- like Phil Phillips, the unfortunately named pawn shop employee, and Adam Brock, the new dad. Tiny 17 year-old Casanova, David Leathers, Jr., somehow manages to score points with the chicks while simultaneously singing "Because You Loved Me" just like one. Shannon Magrane makes it on to the next round despite singing "Fallin'" by Alicia Keys, which I'm convinced no one but Alicia Keys should ever do, and Jessica Phillips of Brooklyn makes it through as well.  Read More...
