'The Simpsons': Matt Groening reveals the real Springfield


One of the great mysteries of "The Simpsons" has finally been revealed. After more than 500 episodes, many of which feature hints and teases, show creator Matt Groening has finally announced which Springfield the show takes place in - and it's exactly what you thought.In an interview with Smithsonian magazine, Groening says that the wildly popular animated show takes place in Springfield, OR, a city about 110 miles south of his hometown of Portland."Springfield was named after Springfield, Oregon. The only reason is that when I was a kid, the TV show 'Father Knows Best' took place in the town of Springfield, and I was thrilled because I imagined that it was the town next to Portland, my hometown," Groening says.
