The Voice “Live Quarterfinal Performances” Review

After being completely over this entire show slightly disgruntled with The Voice last week, I tuned into this week’s round of live performances pretty excited. Why? Because I learned that the Goodie Mob was performing with Cee Lo. Oh well.

Jamar gave a wonderful performance of "Its My Life" that was inspired by his experience recovering from addiction, living with HIV and being chosen by Cee Lo to compete on The Voice. As the very first performance/personal story of the night, I was guardedly optimistic that this week would be better. The pre-performance segment was quite touching. Not even the set from the Broadway musical Stomp and randomly placed fire could distract me from enjoying Jamar. In the most heartfelt feedback I think I’ve ever heard on a reality competition show, Cee Lo applauded Jamar’s spirit and strength and declared his willingness to stand by, fight and die with him. Indeed, Jamar is inspiring. I truly hope that Cee Lo will help Jamar after the competition as it is clear that simply winning The Voice is not enough to stay relevant. Poor Javier. Read More...
