'Smash' Recap: 'Previews'

The show called "Bombshell" finally gave us one: As anyone who watched the "scenes from next week" could attest, 10 seconds into last night’s episode, we finally got our answer to the will-they-won't-they sad pairing of Ivy and Dev. They totally hooked up. Of all the crazy twists and turns, this I didn’t see coming. Remember when Dev was likable? Sleeping with your girlfriend's arch-enemy/sometimes BFF is one of those things you can't come back from. Hats off to the "Smash" producers, though. The two didn’t—as I had feared—pretend not to know each other. Instead, they were simply two upset people who made a very bad decision.

Bad decisions, and their ramifications, were at the heart of "Smash," which showcased opening night of previews for their out-of-town tryout...complete with return addition (and former Julia paramour) Michael Swift. Michael was totally ready to begin a third round of their affair, but Julia—with husband and son in tow—wasn’t going to go there. Julia was also mad at Tom, who she was convinced threw her under the bus when it came to recasting the part. She informed him the producers couldn’t have brought Michael back if those two had voted together, but since Tom went along with Eileen and Derek, it was his fault Michael was back in the show. This was a really difficult fight to watch, because it was hard to have any sympathy whatsoever for Julia. Yes, she was trying to piece her life back together, but I found myself agreeing with Tom: Who else was the show suppose to hire at the last-minute? Read More....
