Red Lights - Review

''IS MAGIC REAL?'' Messy, but fun, this thriller about paranormal activity wets our appetite for the absurd

This half-clever mess of a thriller, Red Lights, gets some mileage out of its novel premise. Sigourney Weaver and Cillian Murphy play scientists hunting for evidence of paranormal activity and extrasensory perception. The hook is that they don't believe in the stuff. The film, highly influenced by the Is magic real? games of Christopher Nolan's The Prestige, goes a long way toward sharing their skepticism (which only feeds our hunger to see the uncanny). As a sinister ESP showman, Robert De Niro is corny and fun. B-
