'Major Crimes': Mary McDonnell goes from outsider to insider on TNT's 'Closer' spinoff

Sharon Raydor was a thorn in the side of the Major Crimes squad on "The Closer." She's still a thorn in the squad's side now -- she just happens to be their boss too. Last week's debut of "Major Crimes," which spun off from "The Closer" to big ratings, saw Raydor (Mary McDonnell) take charge of the squad after the departure of Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick). Raydor is well aware that she's not particularly liked or trusted, McDonnell says, but is rolling with it. "As she becomes an insider as opposed to an outsider, that mistrust doesn't just dissipate -- because that means we would have to have a completely different person there, and there wouldn't have been that history," McDonnell tells Zap2it. "So what's interesting about it for me -- one of the many things that's interesting -- [is] working with that mistrust from the inside, and seeing where that can take us...
