Knight In The Area Episode #18 Anime Review

So, Nadeshiko Japan is having a match, but their coach, Coach Goto, is unwell and needs to take a required rest on his doctor’s orders. So, who will be in charge? That would be Takeda, the numb-nut we’ve been seeing in the broadcast booth who was supposed to provide color commentary, but instead just fawns over how cute some of the players are. Isshiki, the star player, has some reservations, but Goto assures her that it will be okay.

It’s probably not the best time for a new player to arrive: Mai Murasaki, a talented attacking player who takes over Nana’s position as the one who feeds the strikers. Mai is very sure of herself and her abilities, and scores the first goal of the match. But it soon becomes apparent that Mai is as much of a liability as an asset, for she is a ball hog and prima donna, only interested in having the crowd adore her. She is not a team player. The team they are playing against, the women’s league selection team, experienced veterans, take advantage of that disconnect and come back to score two goals and take a lead into halftime.
