There is no elimination this week on Dancing With the Stars All-Stars, I repeat ... no elimination. With the Presidential Election happening tomorrow, ABC is taking the heat off the competitors on Dancing With the Stars All-Stars, so consider it an exhibition show. But don't worry, we'll be live-blogging all the dancing action including a running tally of who you think would be sent home if anything mattered; so be sure to come back here tonight at 8pm EST to join in.
Even though there is no elimination, there is some very interesting news that could potentially shake up the Dancing With the Stars contest. As you probably know, Derek Hough is injured so he will not be dancing with partner Shawn Johnson tonight. Taking his place will be none-other than Mark Ballas. I find the timing very interesting. Just weeks ago Bristol Palin was pouting about how Mark would probably rather be dancing with Shawn than her, and let's not forget that Mark and Shawn won Dancing With the Stars in 2009.
Since there is no elimination this week, there will be two on next week's Dancing With the Stars. Could this reunion of a championship team give Shawn an advantage? Here's a quick peek at the remaining couples along with their current point totals for the season.
1. Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd -- 188.5 total points
2. Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough -- 187.5 total points
3. Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani -- 185 total points
4. Apolo Anton Ohno and Karina Smirnoff -- 184.5 total points
5. Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke -- 181.5 total points
6. Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy -- 177 total points
7. Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy -- 166.5 total points
As you can see, Shawn Johnson is not exactly in bad shape with Derek, so anything that adds to her buzz factor could potentially help pull her into the number one spot. Last week she managed to close the gap between her and Gilles Marini by a half-a-point. If the judges are nostalgic, the re-teaming of Shawn and Mark could result in enough of a boost for her to edge out Gilles, especially if he turns in another sub-par 27.5 like he did last week. On the other hand, the reunion could work against them if the judges hold them as a team to championship standards.
No matter how you slice it, Shawn Johnson could walk out of Dancing With the Stars tonight as the points favorite, she just has the hearts of the voters to contend with. Are you team Shawn?
