Hawaii Five-0 Season 3 Review “Kahu” – Bringing Christmas Cheer to a Young Boy

In this episode of Hawaii Five-0, called “Kahu” (Hawaiian for “Guardian”), Steve and Catherine befriend a boy who needs their help right before Christmas, while the team struggles to find out what kind of trouble the boy’s dad may have gotten into.

Ah, the Hawaii Five-0 Christmas episode. I sincerely missed having one last year and was very happy to see images of the holidays on the island this year. There’s nothing quite like the site of Kamekona in a Santa suit to make it feel like Christmas is here.

The theme of the episode was a good one for the holiday as it focused on a young boy whose father was in trouble and had no family to help. I liked Steve and Catherine taking the kid under their respective wings. While not quite as cool as Lucy in last week’s episode, Ethan was still a fun addition in this episode. He really was the 13-year old version of Steve and I cracked up every time Catherine made the comparison between the two of them. Of course there was no doubt that Ethan’s story would get resolved by the end of the episode, but I still couldn’t help but to feel my heart warm a little bit when he was reunited with his father.
