This week on "American Idol," it was the ladies’ time to shine and for the most part, they rose to the occasion on the third installment of "Hollywood Week." As I mentioned in previous articles, there has been a dearth of female winners on "Idol," with only four having taken the honor in twelve years. The last was Jordin Sparks, way back in Season Six. Will this be the year that finally changes?
To be honest, I’ve always been a bigger fan of female singers than males, anyway, particularly when it comes to pop music. For classic rock, rap, metal, punk and the like, guys are the tops; but when it comes to pop, R&B, and country, I’d much rather hear the ladies get it done, and let’s face it: this ain’t"Rock Idol." Although they’ve taken stabs at just that on other shows, with the likes of "Rock Star"- and one could argue that "The Voice" is a bit more rock-friendly than most. Still, that’s fine. It is what it is, and most people seem to like it just fine.
