American Idol Season 12 Review “Top 10 Perform- Live”

Out with the old, in with the new, or so they kept repeating like a mantra on the latest episode of "American Idol." Time and again, the judges, plus adviser Jimmy Iovine kept saying how each of the Top 10 needed to be informed by the old but be more modern as much as possible. I mean, I certainly understand the sentiment- after all, "Idol" is trying their best to keep up with the times, and stay vital after twelve seasons, so it would make sense that they would want their contestants to be cutting edge and new. Here’s the thing, though. If you look back at the contestants that won, a lot of them won because they successfully captured a fair semblance of the old accurately, not because they brought something new to the table.
