The White Queen Season 1 Episode 1 Review

If you’re currently pining after you weekly Game of Thrones fix, you might do well to seek about The White Queen, a ten-part series currently airing on the BBC in the UK and set to hit Starz later this summer. Based on Phillipa Gregory’s series of books based around The War of the Roses, the show tells the story of the various women in power and out at the time. Our protagonist is Elizabeth Woodville (Rebecca Furguson), a resourceful young mother with the face of an angel, who goes from widowed commoner to Queen within the first hour. ‘What will she do now she has the throne?’ is the question future episodes will ask, with this opener simply moving all the chess pieces into starting positions. There’s scandal, there’s back-stabbing and there’s sex – everything you need on a Sunday evening this summer.
