Flowers Of Evil Episode #01 Anime Review

You know you’re in for something special when a show premieres, the internet boils over in fury, and nothing very eventful even happened in the episode. Aku no Hana is one of the most controversial shows in years, and that all comes down to the visual style chosen for the anime. The manga has a cute and sinister look, taking advantage of the cognitive dissonance caused by seeing cute younger characters doing horrible things. In an attempt to strive for realism, or perhaps to show the ugliness of the characters, director Hiroshi Nagahama, with the permission of mangaka Shuzo Oshimi, went with rotoscoping live action in his adaptation.
