'The Fosters' Season 1 finale: Sherri Saum hopes 'it broadens the definition of family'

Zap2it: How do you describe your "Fosters" character, Lena?Sherri Saum: Lena is an extremely compassionate woman, a vice principal at a charter school. [She has a] gigantic heart for kids; sometimes it gets her in trouble, but [it's] always in the right place.Zap2it: Are you excited to be in a groundbreaking role?Sherri Saum: I didn't think about it that much until the show started airing and the feedback we were getting and how grateful people were.Zap2it: Has there also been negative feedback?Sherri Saum: It was really peripheral. I heard this group came out against us before we even shot a frame of the show. They are going to have to get used to it. We are just reflecting what is happening in society.Zap2it: Where is home?Sherri Saum: I am pretty much full time in L.A. I have a place in New York.
