The Bridge Season 1 Review “The Beast”

Taking the long view on an issue is often easier said than done. Given our current generation, it’s becoming nearly impossible. Everything is ready at our fingertips in a moments notice. As a result, we want instant gratification. We want to know the answer to the question, someone to solve our problem, and have Siri tell us where the local Whole Foods is. And we want all of these things five minutes ago. Television is no different. Some places seem to be actively courting the “now” generation (Yes, Netflix, we’re all looking at you), while other shows delivered in more traditional means struggle to find big hooks early in their series. Slow builds are mostly out the window. The pilots for shows continue to get more and more ambitious. Trying to play the long game can mean television death. Still, there’s a void in the marketplace. With so many shows punching themselves out early trying to grab our attention, the shows that are able to keep is engaged in the present while laying a blueprint for the future ar highly valuable commodities. Through five episodes, The Bridge has been such a commodity.
