whats the reason for the split personality?

one question? why does a traines spy needs a personality of a working guy from the suburbs? this i dont get?? anyone? investing millions to make a personality who doesnt even know how to use a gun?? and second why edward with all the training and ability will ever give up hes freedom of doing thinghs bisides killing so hes alter personality is the one enjoying a real life?? what the fuck is that? i liked the show but its kind of stupid in that way...hope there is a good reason!!

so your explanaition is to waste millions in research have all the trouble to deal with taking care that the other personality doesnt find out about the other one all that and at the end obviously he does find out and still all that trouble for a cover???? I thought the reason to be a spy is you get trained in making your cover look good isnt it?

well maybe he is an operative which is high valuable and he is broken some way with the mind... i mean both his parents have died, he has gone to war many times, he is a successful soldier, but he is that good that he cant have a normal life anymore from all the nasty stuff he has seen... e.g. men blown apart..... and the only way to relieve his symptoms is to have a 2nd personality with a content life beautiful wife and 2 kids.... I mean you saw how trigger happy edward was , when he was told to bring that woman back... he just killed her flat out lol

i can understand what the 1st post was saying, but u have to think of it like this?.......
suppose Henry is real and Edward is fake and was created by the government and that they have all of Henry's "memory" to make him think that he was fake in order for him to keep Edward?
my point being, that the split personality is really for the covert operations..but anything is possible...

That's what I think the story really is too, that Henry is the 'real' personality and Edward is the creation.

its entertainment, not reality, that's why. I stopped questioning the reasoning behind some things because sometimes they are pointless and just makes the movie seem less entertaining if I analyze too much. For example; A woman being chased down by a chainsaw wielding murder and she doesn't stop to take her high heel shoes off so she can actually escape. Some times you have to have the <why ask why attitude> and just see it for what it is <entertainment>

I'm sorry but I disagree with bluechakra, If your watching a show it has to make sense, at least the main story.I also think that Edward is the fake personality otherwise. why can't he act like his cover guy (Henry)

I believe the therapist mentioned it briefly, saying that Henry existed to supplement the needs that Edward was incapable of experiencing. I’m pretty sure she was referring to the hierarchy of needs which includes love and compassion, and all that fluffy stuff that Edward is clearly not.
