Attack On Titan Episode #01 Anime Review

Episode 1 of Attack on Titan begins at the end. The first thing we see is an enormous red Titan glaring over a 160-foot wall. After that, the rest of the episode is spent in anticipation of its inevitable climax. Humanity has enjoyed over 100 years of peace, and safety has made everyone complacent (even though “100 years of peace” implies significant carnage beforehand). Eren, a determined by naïve kid, is one of the few to continuously remind people that horrible danger lurks just outside the wall. Of course, we know all along that Eren is dead right, because we saw the first 10 seconds of the episode. (That’s called “dramatic irony:” the audience has important knowledge that the actors lack.)
