Once Upon a Time in Wonderland Season 1 Review “Down the Rabbit Hole”

Last night was the premiere of the much-anticipated Once Upon a Time in WonderlandAlice in Wonderland is one of my favorite stories, and I watched the Disney cartoon so many times as a child that I can recite the entire movie by heart. When I went to England on vacation, I even made sure to swing by the British Library, where they have the original notebook on display in which Lewis Carroll wrote his story. You get the picture – I like Alice.

In Once Wonderland (for short), Alice is in her late teens and has been institutionalized because of her ranting about a mysterious land with talking rabbits. In flashbacks, we see that over the years Alice has returned to Wonderland in order to bring back proof that it exists and, thus, prove her sanity. In one of these trips, she stumbles into a genie’s bottle. Fortunately, the genie’s inhabitant is a handsome young man and they immediately fall for one another. As fairy tale heroes and heroines do, of course. The Red Queen eventually separates the lovebirds, and Alice believes Cyrus is lost forever. All is not lost, though. The White Rabbit recruits the Knave of Hearts to help him bring Alice back to Wonderland to search for Cyrus.
