How come the public defenders are always in the right?

Is any one else annoyed that in every single episode we end up sympathizing with the accused person? I'm as suspicious of the legal system as the next person, and at first seeing the underdog's triumph was satisfying, but week after week the accused were framed, or misunderstood, or innocent, and I'm finding it rather tiresome. Surely the public defenders must occasionally defend people who are actually guilty and deserve to go to prison? The only episode I can recall where there was some ambiguity was one in first season where Jerry defended a man who molested, but did not kill, a little boy. Does anyone else feel the need for some more controversial cases? Or at least a few down right guilty people?
