Person of Interest Season 3 Review “The Crossing”

There’s no denying that last night’s Person of Interest changed the fabric of the show. Team Machine suffered a huge loss with the death of Detective Carter. In some ways, it felt like a low blow to the loyal viewers. There is certainly a vocal contingency that did not want Fusco to die, but if someone had to go it should’ve been him and not Carter.

There are two ways to look at Carter’s arc this season. The first is that she was at the top of her game and got to go out in a blaze of glory. I look at it the second way. It feels like a bait and switch: we were given a new badass Carter who finally had interesting storylines and more integration with the team. Her alliance with Elias gave her a layer we hadn’t seen before. Her determination to take down HR (and bend rules in the process) gave that tired storyline some life. So they basically built Carter up as one of the strongest, most dynamic characters on the team and then kicked viewers in the gut. Midway into the third season, it felt like a cheap trick.
