Glee Season 5 Review “Movin’ Out”

This week’s episode of Glee, was a dream come true for any fans desperate for the Ohio stuff to make way for full-time NYC action, and it didn’t disappointment. I’d probably say this week’s episode was a perfect example of what grown-up Glee can be, and how much better it is than the current split-location muddle, with the only two high school characters I still care about – Sam and Blaine – visiting New York to try out schools and see if the big city is really for them.

There was also a Billy Joel theme, which is a major improvement on the watered-down recreations of Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and Lady GaGa that have assaulted our ears for the past two weeks. Piano Man (only the third song in the show’s history to get a second outing if I’m not mistaken) was fantastic, and there wasn’t really a dud on the entire soundtrack. Musically, it was up there with the Beatles episodes for me, and each number felt as if it actually needed to be there – infused with a sense of fun and forward motion that has been missing for far too long.
