Blumhouse Production’s thriller sequel The Purge 2 is set to hit theaters in just about six months, so it’s a good thing they’ve landed their lead actor in Frank Grillo (Warrior). One benefit of the production company’s propensity toward micro-budget pictures is the potential for big gains on the risk of only a small amount of loss; another is the speed with which a picture can be shot, edited and prepped for release. Writer-director James DeMonaco (The Purge) is returning to write/produce/direct the sequel, so his learning curve should be non-existent. The first film starred Ethan Hawke as a security system designer bent on protecting his family during the one night a year when all emergency services are shut down and criminals of all sorts run unchecked. Hit the jump for why Grillo is probably the last guy you want to mess with.
