TV ratings: 'American Idol' premiere down, 'Suburgatory' has OK start Wednesday

Fast National ratings for Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014"American Idol" returned to FOX Wednesday and immediately took over the top of the ratings. That's the good news. The bad news is that the premiere was down 2.9 million viewers and 1.4 points among adults 18-49 from its 2013 debut.Elsewhere Wednesday, "Suburgatory" made its return to ABC with so-so numbers. It held onto most of its lead-in audience from "The Middle" but was below its ratings for last season. "Chicago PD" dipped in its second week for NBC, but "CSI" built on its last original episode for CBS. "Arrow" held up fairly well for The CW.FOX drew 15 million viewers and an 8.7 rating/14 share in households in primetime, easily beating second-place CBS (8.65 million, 5.6/9).
